First Contact Cuff
Making the cuff is like making a
cuff on a pair of pants but with a little
more of a twist adding the division color...Here is my version of
the cuff
Materials you will need
2 pieces of black material
division color same width as sleeve
needle and thread
palon
I made mine approximatly 3 inches wide once
done...
1 black piece should be about 2 1/4 inch, the other 3 1/4"...dont
worry about how long to make
the pieces, better to have a long piece that can be cut to adapt
to your sleeve width.
The division should be 3 inches wide
Sew the division color to the black pieces on
both sides using a 1" inch seam..a little less than
an in wont hurt but make sure the seam is straight......DO NOT
press the seam open

your going to fold over heach flap..then hand sew making sure not
to pierce through
the division color...it should look like this once done

At this point your piece should be 4 1/4 inched wide...Put up
against your opened
sleeve and cut to the same width of your sleeve...sew up your
sleeve...fold the cuff in half
and sew using the same seam allounce that you used for the sleeve...Here
comes the fun part
You should at this point have a cuff with a
shorter black panel and on the other side a panel that is
long..We're now going to attach the smaller black panel to the
sleeve..Your sleeve should be on the
right side..in other words like you were ready to wear...Line up
the seams and pin to the sleeve.
Remember, we are going to sew on the top of the right side

Use a 1/4 " seam..this is very important. If you do a larger
seam allowance the cuff will look
un-even..a little less than 1/4 wouldn't hurt at all..after
sewing fold the cuff over the sleeve

your cuff is now almost complete...you now have to fold under the
raw edge..This is where the
measurements might not line up when you fold under..if its too
wide, cut excess and try again
till it gets to where you want it then pin..Turn the sleeve
inside out and baste stitch to the sleeve
making sure you are not going all the way through the cuff..your
basicly just nicking the inside of the cuff.

This should be the final cuff..repeat on other sleeve..
SOME BASIC TIPS:)
Use palon to make the cuff more rigid..
Press open all seams unless where noted
When you do the first fold dont fold
all the way till the seam shows, this will put the
sleeve seam on the outside of your cuff. Press the sleeve
so that the seam is just on the
inside of the cuff..You will be covering this with your
sleeve lining.
Always make a test uniform to get the measurments right. Fabric is costly..
